My college roommate (Emory University) is now a hotshot cardiologist. This guy makes good money but still likes to trim his own hedges.🤷🏻 So let me paint the picture. It’s a hot summer day in ATL, he’s got both hands on his trimmer like the picture below but wants to access the back of the bush.
In order to do so, he’s got to move the front branches. So without turning off the trimmer, he takes his left hand off the trimmer to push the front branches aside, and as soon as he does, BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, he slices the tip of his ring finger. His fingertip is now hanging on only by the skin. His first call was to 911. His second call was to me…freaked out about his career, asking me about his disability insurance coverage he placed just a few months before.
I co-founded GenFi-D.I. because the disability buying process has always been so painful. Tell me if this sounds familiar:
You get multiple emails from insurance sales people EVERY day. They say they don’t want to bother you. They say they won’t spam you. Yet they’ve emailed you like 6 or 7 times. Their subject lines always say it’s urgent or time is of the essence. Blah blah blah. And then, if you actually respond to them, it’s game over. They will NEVER stop bothering you. Am I right?
I wanted to create an experience where you, the physician, are in charge. Where you can feel informed without being pressured. Where we only engage if you engage first. Where you can provide your contact info without fear of us adding you to a distribution list. You know that disability insurance is important. You’re probably going to get it eventually and I think when you’re ready, you’re going to get it from a group that provides the best experience and the best service. And I think that’s going to be GenFi-D.I.
In addition to GenFi-D.I., I’m the founder of Generational Financial Partners where we help physicians plan for today, plan for tomorrow, and plan for GENERATIONS…
I’m married to my middle school sweetheart, Jennifer, and we have two amazing sons together (Matty, age 9 and Arty, age 6).

“I wish they would have taught us this stuff in medical school!” I can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard this from our physician clients, which is ultimately what inspired us to create GenFi-D.I. Sure, you know you need disability insurance because everyone tells you that, and you probably even know you need a “special definition of disability” that protects doctors. Most physicians think their disability insurance journey ends there, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Our mission at GenFi-D.I. is to create a hassle free environment that puts you in control of the process, while still maintaining a level of education about the various features/benefits of the major insurance carriers.
It’s hard to believe over 11 years have passed since I begin working in this field, but helping my physician clients has become one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. Our clients span throughout the US and we consider it an honor and privilege to give back to a community that does so much for others.
My passion outside of work is my family. My wife is a psychiatric nurse practitioner and works at our local VA hospital. Hudson and Lucy are our pride and joy, in addition to keeping us exhausted and on our toes!

Imagine the following situation: You’re 35 years old and starting your 5th year as an attending surgeon. You’re married, have two beautiful children and 2 years away from making partner. Life is GOOD! After a normal shift, you get in your car but before you’re able to crank it up, your arm becomes numb, your head becomes dizzy, and your vision becomes blurred.
It’s a stroke. How can that be? You’re only 35 and healthy…or at least you thought.
Your family’s life has forever changed. Due to the stroke, you now have memory issues and limited use of your dominant arm and leg. While your overall health begins to slowly improve, your time as a surgeon is over. You will never operate again. And the lifestyle you envisioned for your family has been forever altered.
This is a real life story…one that I regret because I could have changed this doctor’s entire narrative. He shared with me the level to which he was bombarded with offers and solicitations for disability coverage…so much so that it turned him off altogether to addressing the risk. As a result, I told him I would take a step back and let him reach out to me when he was ready. He never did.
When he suffered his stroke, all he had was his group’s disability coverage. To say that the group coverage was insufficient is an understatement. He was paying more towards his student loans each month than what he now receives each month from the group coverage.
As a physician, you know better than anyone that you’re healthy until you’re not. Your ability to go and help people each day and earn your paycheck is your single greatest asset. While disability insurance is typically not something you want to discuss, it’s something you need. Our goal at GenFi-D.I. is to provide an experience where you can obtain the most suitable disability coverage without the hassle that comes from the traditional insurance buying process.
Away from work, I enjoy all things sports and outdoors. My wife, Kelly, is an OR Nurse. Between she and our three children (Oliver, Evie and Mac), they keep me plenty busy! ***Fun fact: I pitched in college and led my league in strikeouts one year….the very next year I led in hits batsman.
